About the Studio

Casco Bay Movers Dance Studio was founded in 1983 by Sheila Bellefleur. At its inception, the school specialized in jazz dance and adult classes to support the training for the professional jazz dance company she directed.  Soon after its founding, children’s classes were added, including the Danceimagination program, a developmentally appropriate, child-centered approach to dance training devised by Michelle Stuckey. It was the first of its kind in Maine, and we continue to build on this philosophy, adding influences from Brain-Compatible Dance Education, BrainDance, and SEL. Sheila began studying dance as a young adult in Massachusetts. She found some schools and teachers unsupportive of “older” students who desired to pursue dance as a career seriously.  Sheila created CBM to provide a welcoming and supportive space for all to study dance. Since then, CBM has led diverse dance education in Maine, and we carry forward the mission of fostering community over competition. Our team of professional teaching artists proudly offers the highest quality training in jazz, ballet, tap, modern, contemporary, hip hop, creative movement, and more to all movers ages 2 through adults in a welcoming, supportive, and non-competitive environment.

Casco Bay Movers does not discriminate by race, age, gender, national origin, religion, or sexual orientation. This is expressed in equal opportunities for participation and involvement.  We believe in a diverse world and know our community is stronger when our doors open to all.
