About Nicole:  Nicole Wolcott is an independent choreographer, dance artist and teacher based in Brooklyn, NY.  In all of these roles she is driven by an interest in the flux between the body being an abstract kinetic form in space and an amalgam of qualities and experiences that comprise a human identity – an individual who has history, expression, a sense of humor.  Even as she embraces the ineffable nature of this art, it is important to her that people find a part of themselves in the work, so she places her dances in settings that look like the dreams of the real places we inhabit. Her compositions operate like a series of cinematographic quick cuts where density of narrative detail is delivered in complex blasts. The visual and kinesthetic information ultimately compounds and subdivides, giving the audience a sense of being an intimate co-conspirator in the venture.

Called “One of today’s finest dance comedians and a knockout dancer,” by the New York Times, Nicole has enjoyed a long career with dance companies, rock bands and video artists around the country and been the subject of a feature article in DANCE TEACHER magazine.  In 2001 Nicole met Larry Keigwin at The Bates Dance Festival and they began an artistic friendship that has been the through line of the last fifteen years of her career. After creating their signature work, Straight Duet, Nicole and Larry co-founded KEIGWIN + COMPANY in 2003; She was the Associate Artistic Director and a featured dancer until 2013.  Nicole is now the Education Director for the company.  She continues to assist Larry on a variety of projects outside of the company’s framework; most recently the Broadway production of If/Then starring Idina Menzel. The work closest to her heart is creating Boleros in communities around the country with Larry, based on their large scale signature collaboration highlighting 50 New York community members “Bolero NYC.”

Wolcott’s choreography has been performed at a range of venues from The Kennedy Center to CBGB’s with critical acclaim. Currently she is enjoying traveling and performing her evening length solo PaperPieces. Quinn Baston of says, “Nicole Wolcott’s PaperPieces is/are all over the place literally and emotionally, but that is somehow perfect.”
